BRING YOUR PET TO LONG ISLAND ON YOUR NEXT VACATION AND TREAT HIM LIKE ROYALTY

HAUPPAUGE, NY - (July 29, 2005) - Don’t leave your pet behind on your next family visit. Bring him along to Long Island and they’ll be plenty of fun for the entire family, including your pet.

Long Island is exceptionally pet friendly, offering hotel accommodations, parks, beaches, and even a real Gold Coast CASTLE overlooking a beautiful harbor, now designated as an official dog park. Come to Long Island and treat your pet like royalty.

Or take your pet to one of the many pet friendly hotels in Long Island’s world-famous Hamptons, and let your pet hobnob with the pets of the rich and famous.
Known for its scenic wooded parks and sparkling ocean beaches, Long Island welcomes pets at many locations.

Coindre Hall, located in Huntington on the harbor, is a stunning example of a 1920s Long Island Gold Coast mansion, featuring two towers on the front façade and based on a French chateau design. Coindre Hall now houses the Museum of Long Island’s Gold Coast, which features exhibits, photography and other artifacts from the era of excess. And dogs will love the acres and acres of open fields. At this moment, dogs must be kept on a leash, but efforts are underway to enclose the area for leash-less recreation.

Nearby at West Hill Park in Huntington, dogs are welcome to run free.
Dogs are welcome at all Suffolk County Parks, with entrance fee. Beach areas that permit dog access, except in lifeguard areas, include Cupsoque, Meschutt, Shinnecock East, Charles Attinkirck, and Smith Point beaches.
Nassau County Parks only permit residents with licensed dogs to use county park facilities. However State-operated parks in Nassau County, including Hempstead Lake, are pet-friendly.

Other State-operated parks in Suffolk County welcoming dogs include Belmont Lake State Park, Sunken Meadow State Park, Hecksher State Park, Hither Hills State Park (also offering oceanfront campground) and Montauk State Park (home of Long Island’s most iconic lighthouse).

“No dog” signs must be keenly observed at beaches that are home to endangered species of birds and other wildlife.

Pet friendly accommodations on Long Island include the Holiday Inn in Plainview or Westbury, and the Residence Inn in Plainview, both in Nassau County.
Or on the Eastern End of Long Island in Suffolk County’s trendy Hamptons, accommodations include the Atlantic Hotel in Southampton, the Bentley Hotel in Southampton and the Southampton Inn in Southampton.
Long Island extends a welcome to you and your pet. For more information on pet-friendly activities and accommodations, contact the Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission.

The Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission (LICVB&SC) is the marketing arm for the destination’s nearly $5 billion travel and tourism industry. Based in Hauppauge, NY, the LICVB&SC promotes Long Island as a world-class destination for tourism, meetings, trade shows, and sporting events.
