EXPANSION OF HOV LANE ON LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY EASES TRANSPORTATION TO LONG ISLAND’S ATTRACTIONS
HAUPPAUGE, NY -(October 19, 2005)- Touring Long Island just got easier with the opening of the last leg of the Long Island Expressway’s High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane.
The HOV on Long Island now stretches from the Queens border at the Cross Island interchange, through all of Nassau County, and out to the eastern half of the Island at Exit 64-Medford.
The expansion of the HOV gives groups coming to visit Long Island’s attractions more flexibility in terms of timing, allowing them travel during normally heavily traffic times by bypassing congestion.
The HOV lane now spans approximately 40 miles of the Long Island Expressway. The only one of its kind in suburban New York State, the Long Island Expressway HOV lane is reserved for use by vehicles with two or more travelers during peak travel hours –from 6a.m. to 10a.m. and from 3p.m. to 8p.m. weekdays. It is an ideal option for bus tours and group visits.
The Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission (LICVB&SC) was established in 1979 as the official tourism promotion agency for the destination’s travel and tourism industry. Based on Long Island in Hauppauge, NY, the LICVB&SC contributes to the economic development and quality of life on Long Island by promoting the region as a world-class destination for tourism, meetings and conventions, trade shows, sporting events, and related activities.
