LONG ISLAND TO WELCOME ANIMALS FROM CLOSED CATSKILL GAME FARM
Enjoy the Long Island Game Farm and Other Local Children’s Attractions
HAUPPAUGE, NY -(OCTOBER 30, 2006)- Generations of families who enjoyed the Catskill Game Farm in upstate New York may want to consider starting a new tradition at the Long Island Game Farm, especially since some of the Catskill Game Farm animals were recently acquired by the Long Island Game Farm.
Anyone who visited the Catskill Game Farm during its 75-years in upstate New York was saddened when it closed its doors September 2006 and placed its animals up for auction. But the Long Island Game Farm moved quickly to acquire some of the Catskill animals, to provide them a home and to act as companions to some of its own animals at the sprawling site in Manorville, NY. These include a cougar and a camel.
Currently closed for the winter season, the Long Island Game Farm will reopen in the spring to debut the new animals to the public, as it celebrates its 37th season. This beautiful facility offers a wide variety of animals, from mountain lions and lemurs, to bears and alligators, in addition to its recently added residents, The Kangaroos! Take a ride on the free children’s rides and don’t forget to pet Jerry the Giraffe. Kids will also love Bambiland at the Game Farm, where they can feed deer and other baby animals.
Along with the Game Farm, Long Island offers families a range of fun-filled activities. From a world-class water park to a Children’s Museum that will capture the imagination of the young at heart, kids will love the broad range of attractions Long Island offers just for them. And on Long Island, there are always miles of white sandy beaches to enjoy.
Just a stone’s throw from the Long Island Game Farm is Splish Splash in Riverhead, rated the #1 Water Park in the Tri State area by the NY Post and the # 5 Water Park in America by the Travel Channel. Experience one-of-a-kind water rides, including The Hollywood Stunt Rider, the Giant Twister and Shotgun Falls. Fun for the entire family.
While in Riverhead, visit Atlantis Marine World, located on 3.2 scenic acres on the Peconic River, and see its newest exhibit: The Penguins! Come to Atlantis Marine World where you can immerse yourself in an adventure of a lifetime with a “Shark Cage Dive.” Or, be a “Sea Lion Trainer for the Day,” or have an up close experience by “Snorkeling with the Sting Rays.” Atlantis Marine World is also home to exciting live marine exhibits including the sharks, sea lions, octopus and a giant, bright green moray eel. During your visit, board the Atlantis Explorer for an educational environmental tour boat adventure along the Peconic River, where you can experience the natural wonders of Long Island.
These family friendly attractions are all within a half-hour of each other. Another cluster of children’s attractions is in Nassau County, Long Island.
How thrilled would your children be to learn of a museum created just for them? At the Long Island Children’s Museum, exhibits and amazing hands-on displays help children to learn…fun! Pop the boundary between play and experimentation in the Bubble Room; or visit Sandy Island to shape a sand dune with wind; venture through a two-story climbing structure; or experience the magic of making music, among many other adventures.
And right next door, The Cradle of Aviation Museum features an extensive collection of planes and other exhibits that explore the earliest days of flight, through the Golden Age of flying, to space exploration and contemporary aviation. The collection includes historical planes from WWI and WWII, modern fighter jets, as well as the actual test model for the Lunar Excursion Module, produced right here on Long Island. An exciting IMAX theater, the largest on Long Island, allows visitors to fully experience through sense and sound, what it is like to be a fighter pilot, or a NASCAR driver, or to travel to the depths of the sea.
Also in the same row of museums is the Nassau County Firefighters Museum, opened to the public in 2006 and housing exhibits on fire safety, fire departments and rescue.
For another experience that will take you out of the ordinary, visit the Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Plainview. The Old Bethpage Village Restoration offers children the opportunity to see what life was like before there was electricity, cars and video games. Today, there are 51 historic buildings and seven reconstructions and the site encompasses 209 acres. The facility caters to children and adults in a fun and interactive way, with persons performing 19th century style tasks in full costume.
