ICE CARVING, ICE AGE EXPEDITION, WINERY EVENTS, ART AND CULTURE AT LONG ISLAND WINTERFEST 2007

HAUPPAUGE, NY –(December 18, 2006)- Make plans to go to the East End of Long Island, where the East End Arts Council and local vineyards, cultural venues, attractions, accommodations and eateries have joined together to create an array of special events and offers designed to lift the mid-winter doldrums.

Enjoy the festivities this winter on Long Island during Winterfest 2007: January 19th – March 25th.

Plan a Valentine’s Day Getaway or a weekend away with the girls. Special performances and exhibits, as well as winery offerings and hotel deals are being offered. Or venture out on an “Ice Age Expedition” with the kids, through a special package arranged by a local waterfront hotel and the Dinosaur Walk Museum.

Enjoy ice carving demonstrations, ice skating, hot mulled wine, music, history and nature.

Winterfest is a cultural tourism initiative by the East End Arts Council to support and promote cultural activities across the North and South Fork during the winter months.  This years’ WINTERFEST 2007also includes.

A free passport map, a sturdy fold-out map of the East End of Long Island with a list of the participating venues on its flip side. Maps can be found at all of the participating venues--check website for listing.

WINTERFEST has a new stand alone website, www.LIWINTERFEST.org that features the most up-to-date information about what is happening where, and when.  The website has two different ways to search for happenings – by date and by interest.  Follow the icons from the logo to the different areas of interest – Grapes = hospitality, shopping; Snowflake = attractions; Dancer = cultural and arts events.

This year the festivities have expanded in length to January 19th – March 25th.  We are pleased to announce that it has doubled in the amount of participants as well, and is growing all the time.  Continue to check the website for new participants each week.

One of the most unique ways to celebrate the beauty of the East End is the Photography contest. The categories, registration information and forms can all be found on the website.  Cornell Cooperative will be enhancing this by hosting several nature walks as will the local historical societies.  These walks will parallel with the categories in the photo contest.  Professional photographers will go on these walks to help armatures learn more about shooting.

Throughout the WINTERFEST, there will be a special Treasure Hunt that runs through the North and South forks.  Parents, kids and other fun-loving folks can pick up a “Treasure Map” that gives clues to hidden treats found at various East End venues.  The first 300 people to get these maps get a free East End Experience card (a $25 discount card).  Check the website for Treasure Map locations.
