HAUPPAUGE, NY –(September 18, 2007)- Visit Long Island for plenty of fall fun, from harvest and seafood festivals to outdoor arts and crafts fairs.
Come see Revolutionary War re-enactors, historic woodworkers, wool spinners, and more at the historical museums in Southampton, or enjoy farm animals, brass band concerts, puppet shows, magic acts, pumpkins, wagon and pony rides, fiddle music, dancing, and jugglers at the village restoration in Bethpage.
Pumpkin-picking, cornfield mazes, music, crafts, hot cider, hayrides, and a Long Island specialty: fresh roasted corn. Visit Long Island’s regional farm stands or sample the latest vintage at one of over 30 wineries.
Tomatoes, peaches, raspberries, melons, grapes, apples, pears, cider, and greens are just some of the fresh produce one can pick (and eat!) from Long Island’s abundant farm stands. Buy some vegetables or enjoy it at a nearby picnic area. Take a bunch and a bushel to bring home to share with friends and family. Grab recipes to learn how to make various pies and cakes with these harvest goodies, or pick up a ready-made freshly baked fruit pie at one of several pie stands.
Grab an ear of roasted corn as you enjoy the scents and sounds of Long Island farm stands. Wash it down with a crisp glass of cider or lemonade.
The third week in September is harvest time for Long Island’s wineries. Check your favorite winery for details on the harvest. There are over 30 wineries on Long island open to the public for tastings and tours.
Visit www.discoverlongisland.com for a complete listing and maps of Long Island Wine Country and Long Island farm stands.
