Sands Point Preserve

The preserve offers an incredible view of Long Island Sound. It has 216 acres of both natural and landscaped area with fields, woodlands, lawns, shore cliffs, fresh water pond, marine water feature, and six self guided nature trails. The pond is located in the middle of the land bird migratory route attracting migrating flycatchers, warblers, and vireos. The pond attracts Black-crowned Night Herons, Eastern Towhees, American Robins, Gray Catbirds, Carolina Wrens, and Great-crested Flycatchers nest here, Ringed-necked Pheasants are often seen here. The shore line attracts gulls, tern, and small shorebirds. Directions: From Route 25A turn north at Port Washington Blvd. which becomes Middle Neck Road. The entrance to the preserve is on the right side of the road. Fees: $1.00 admission to the preserve. Best seasons for birdwatching: spring Hours of operation: The Preserve is open from May through October.
